OPH / DUTY is a members' club for people in Accra, Kumasi and Tema. This page explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, who can see it, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
OPH / DUTY (“we”, “us”) runs the OPH / DUTY app and its events in Ghana. We are the data controller for the personal data described here, and we handle it in line with Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
What we collect
- Your application to join: your name, email, phone number, date of birth, city, what you do, why you'd like to join, any member you say you know, and a LinkedIn or Instagram link if you add one. We use your date of birth to check you are 21 or older.
- Your account: your email address and password, used to sign you in. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody can read them, us included.
- Your profile: your name, and anything you choose to add, such as your job title, industry, area, interests, goals and profile photo. Your date of birth stays with your application and is never shown on your profile.
- Verification, if you ask for it: a work email or LinkedIn link. Only admins see these, and only to check you are who you say you are.
- What you post: posts, photos, replies, likes, poll votes and messages.
- Events: when you get a ticket, your name, phone number and email, the ticket type and whether it's paid. Mobile Money payments are made to us directly; we don't receive your PIN or wallet details.
- Safety records: reports you make or that are made about you, blocks, and any suspension.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, the push address your browser gives us.
We don't use advertising trackers or sell your data. The only cookies we set are the ones that keep you signed in.
Why we use it
- To decide on applications to join, and to check members are 21 or older.
- To run your account and show your profile to the members you allow.
- To deliver posts and messages to the people they're meant for.
- To sell and check tickets for events.
- To keep members safe: reviewing reports, and suspending people who break the Terms.
- To send you sign-in links and the notifications you've turned on.
We rely on your consent when you join and add information, on our agreement with you to provide the service, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the club safe.
Who can see what
- Your application: only the OPH / DUTY team. If a member invited you, they don't see your answers.
- Your profile: whoever your visibility setting allows (Profile → Profile visibility).
- Posts and photos: in The Lounge, every member. In a Circle, its members only; others see just the title and how lively it is.
- Messages: only the people in the conversation.
- Admins and Circle hosts can see content that has been reported, to decide what to do about it.
- People you block stop seeing your posts, and you stop seeing theirs.
Where it is kept
Your data is stored with Supabase (our database and file storage) and the app is served by Netlify. Their servers may be outside Ghana; both protect data in transit and at rest. Sign-in emails are sent through our email provider, and push notifications through your browser's push service (for example Google or Apple). We share data with these providers only so they can run the service for us.
We would only share your data with anyone else if the law required it.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, posts, replies, messages and memberships straight away, and your application with them. Ticket and payment records stay for our accounts, with your name, phone number and email removed.
If we don't accept an application, we delete it 90 days after deciding.
Your rights
- See and correct your information at any time in Profile → Edit.
- Delete your account yourself in Profile → Delete account.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or object to how we use it.
- Complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission if you think we've handled your data wrongly.
Age
OPH / DUTY is only for people aged 21 and over. If we learn that a member is younger, we will close their account.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell members in the app first. For questions or requests about your data, use Report on any profile or post and say what you need; our admins read every report (an email address is coming soon).
